At Ravensthorpe Junior School, we believe that Computing is fundamental in developing our children for their futures. Following on from KS1, our pupils have the opportunity to build upon their computing skills each year, refining their skillset and expanding their computational thinking. We focus on the three computing stands: information technology, digital literacy and computer science. Our pupils learn how to be responsible online which enables them to make safe decisions when using technology. Linking to RHE, we participate in Safer Internet Day which develops the children’s knowledge of staying safe while enjoying the benefits of the internet. In every year group, each child has the opportunity to learn how to code: they read, create, edit and debug algorithms to make an exciting product. Our children have the opportunity to use a range of devices, computer programmes and apps to create work which showcases their progressive computing ability and develops the skills which will be required in their future careers. Throughout our school, Computing has cross-curricular links to other subject, allowing our pupils to understand just how important computers can be.
