RHE (Relationships and Health Education)
At Ravensthorpe Junior School, the Relationships and Health Education curriculum is carefully planned to ensure it is taught in a stage, age and developmentally appropriate way. Stories are used as a basis to explore significant feelings, values and issues in a safe and non-intrusive environment. Emphasis is placed on delivering a curriculum which equips our children with the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to keep themselves safe in a variety of different contexts. In an increasingly digital world, an emphasis is placed on how to keep safe online. Children are taught that taking care of their mental health is just as important as taking care of their physical health. To support the use of Emotion Coaching and Restorative Practice within school, children learn to recognise, label and understand their emotions. In doing so, the children gain an awareness of how their body reacts to emotions and are taught a range of self-regulation strategies. We participate in national initiatives such as Anti-Bullying Week and Internet Safety Day alongside teaching key concepts personalised to our community during Wellbeing Week, Careers Week and Enterprise Week.
