Mrs J Mitchell

Role: Vice Chair of Governors, Wellbeing Governor

Governor Category: Co-opted

Committees: Resources and Finance, Performance Management

Date appointed: 05/06/21

Term of office: 4 years

My name is Julia Mitchell and I live in Mirfield. I have worked for the Local Authority for over 30 years, 25 of those at a local primary school where I started as an ETA and eventually became Bursar and Staff Governor. For the last six years I’ve been a volunteer at my local library, organising children’s activities including the Saturday Lego Club and craft/art sessions. I am passionate about ensuring creativity is included in the school curriculum as well as a love of reading. My belief is that every child has individual strengths which are not always academic. In my spare time I like to draw and paint; I also enjoy walking and reading. I love animals and volunteer once every two weeks at a local animal shelter. As a Governor at Ravensthorpe, I am looking forward to getting to know the school and its community.

Miss J L Alderson

Role: Headteacher

Governor Category: Headteacher

Committees: Standards and Effectiveness, Resources and Finance

Date Appointed: 01/09/20

Term of Office: N/A

My name is Miss Alderson and I am the Headteacher at Ravensthorpe CE (VC) Junior School. My role is to ensure that the other members of the governing body are able to carry out their roles effectively by providing them all of the relevant information that they need. We are lucky at Ravensthorpe to have a very supportive and hardworking governing body; they really care about your children and want them to succeed. I am very proud to be a member of such a brilliant team.

I have also worked on the governing body at Diamond Wood Community Academy for several years. Through this, I know that the partnership we have with DWCA will help your children to make a safe transition and good progress across the two schools.

Mrs N Sajid

Role: Chair of the Resources and Finance Committee, Special Educational Needs Governor

Governor Category: Parent

Committees: Resources and Finance

Date Appointed: 09/11/23

Term of Office: 4 years

My name is Nazia Sajid. I was born in Dewsbury and have lived in Ravensthorpe all my life. I attended local schools throughout my childhood and then went onto study an apprenticeship and work with the Education Service within Kirklees council for several years.

I am now a mum to four children but keep myself involved in the local community as much as I can. I have volunteered with the Dewsbury and Mirfield family forum and have regularly attended Diamond Wood Parent Forum meetings. Over the last couple of years I have taken part in various courses including a Skills for Volunteers and Community Interpreting course.

I have always been actively involved in my children's education and having worked in the education sector have always been interested in being part of a governing body. The role allows me to see the school from a different perspective and it is a wonderful learning experience as well as a rewarding one.

I have been a parent governor at Ravensthorpe Junior School for the past eight years and am currently in my third term. I always try to carry out my role as effectively as possible by asking questions and participating fully in meetings. I enjoy being involved with all the different aspects of school life and working with the leadership team and fellow governors to provide the best education and opportunities for all of our pupils.

Miss C. Gee

Role: Health and Safety Governor

Governor Category: Kirklees LA

Committees: Standards and Effectiveness, Resources and Finance, Performance Management

Date Appointed: 23/09/23

Term of Office: 4 Years

I am Charlotte Gee and I live in Mirfield. I have a degree in teaching and learning and my career has been based around delivering high-quality training and development and coaching to adult learners and also developing young adults in their achievement of apprenticeships. I am passionate about learning and also supporting, developing and training adults across a range of subjects including leadership and management, teaching and a variety of personal development skills. I help organisations and individuals to achieve their individual development requirements.

My inspiration behind becoming a school governor was that I work closely with lots of adults who didn't enjoy their time at school and this has had a negative impact on their lives and their views about learning and I am passionate about helping them to see learning and development differently, by making it fun, supportive, achievable and rewarding. Being a governor allows me to support and challenge the school leadership team so that the children of Ravensthorpe Church of England Junior school have the best possible experience of school, which in turn may engage them into life-long learners.

We have the following vacancies:

1 co-opted governor

1 parent governor

3 foundation governors
